LB Loadpoint Bearings - Success Story
Loadpoint Bearings is a privately-owned company based in Dorset. It was founded in 1980, employs 26 people and has an annual turnover of £2.2 million.
It manufactures air bearings for the Automotive, Electronics, Paint-Spraying, Semi-Conductor and Contact Lens Industries and can respond to customer demands for higher performance spindles or completely new air spindle concepts. With continuous investment in new machinery and the latest test equipment, Loadpoint’s spindles are manufactured to the highest standard, making them a leading supplier of high-performance spindle systems.
Managing Director Tony Snow, who has been with the Company for 25 years, said, "We had struggled for thirty years with a paper-based system for managing the business. We used Sage for invoicing and Excel spreadsheets for everything else. It was impossible trying to run a business, which at that time was turning over £1.2m. per annum, like that. We even tried a ‘bolt-on’ electronic system for Sage, but it didn't work, so in 2008, I started a two-year search for a better system."
Tony continued, "I did look at other systems, but none of them was quite what was needed for our business. I visited a Trade Show where I was first introduced to Tricorn and subsequently saw it in operation at another company, where it had been installed and was highly recommended. I requested a demonstration – and liked what I saw. I liked the simplicity of it, the bar-code and scanning facility, it is user-friendly and I liked the fact that you can add more software modules as you go along. It was exactly what we needed."
"The installation in 2010 went brilliantly. Tricorn installed the main database, which we used for admin initially and then added more products during the course of a year. After the training, Tricorn remotely installed a practice site, which enabled all the staff to feel comfortable with using the system. It was excellent and the ongoing support and back-up are second to none."
Impact on Business
Tony concluded, "We now use the system for everything – purchasing, finance, engineering – in fact everything from the office to the shop floor. There is transparency and traceability throughout production, every department is aware of what stage a job is at, everybody uses the system for their relevant area of work. It has added structure to the business, provided a method of working with ISO accreditations, given us more control over orders and production and made us more efficient in managing the business. We would not have been able to achieve our current level of turnover without Tricorn."
